Every time this patron walks in the door, we’re delighted by his collection of interesting shirts –– some Trend-made, some sourced elsewhere. Some feature parades of African savannah animals, others showcase bright checks and stripes in bold colours while all have a distinctly custom feeling to them. Most major retailers fear prints like these and when they do run unique pieces, they only run small quantities. This makes it difficult for the more creative consumer to go any direction but custom.

For his latest custom piece, this playful patron desired something with a green and purple palette. This colour combination is traditionally worn by comic book foils like Lex Luthor, the Joker and the Green Goblin to contrast with the wild primaries of Superman, Batman and Spider-Man. Yet they’re also colours that carry connotations of power, vanity, and pride –– admirable traits common to sharp dressers. Lindy Hemming, costume designer for Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, clothed Heath Ledger in the Joker’s traditional purple and green for the Dark Knight (2008) but took an entirely custom, contemporary fashion-forward approach to the Joker’s typically old-fashioned three-piece suits. She noted in interviews that the Joker’s entirely custom wardrobe needed no rationale beyond the simple fact that many men take care to dress themselves to the extremes in the real world with bright colours, custom pieces and fearless plays with texture and pattern.

Our patron knows how to wear this colour to its fullest potential. Mixing purples with a lavender shirt and bright purple tie, grounding it with a neutral trouser and accessorizing with a smart hat. We look forward to seeing all the different looks he comes up with for his visits throughout the years.
