Not all vests are created equal, but one thing is certain, all vests are capable of making a statement. A bespoke vest with flare can showcase the wearer’s personality, interests, his ability to dress well and turn a regular two-piece into a more formal outfit.
This vest has flare in spades with a silk and wool combination that is daring and unusual. The back and shoulders have panels of large check wool in rusty orange while the rest of the vest is an orange and aqua blue silk jacquard which we sourced locally. Self covered buttons nicely finish the vest with the final button contrasted in orange.
The vest is made to match a wool jacket we had previously made for this client. The jacket is a sandy brown check with a very subtle touch of lavender.
Having been popularised in the 1800s, the vest is not a piece found in the typical man’s wardrobe today. This is usually due to the difficulty in coordinating them with an outfit. Vests are generally made to supplement the jacket and cover up suspenders so suit vests made specifically to match a suit are generally not supposed to be worn without the accompanying jacket. As such, vests like this one are designed so they can stand alone without the feeling of something being absent. They can be coordinated with a two-piece suit, yet are not bound to any particular suit. For the more adventurous dresser, the vest is an easy way to change the look of entire outfits.
