E.H drops in one day as a walk-in. He is a young professional and looking to indulge in bespoke for the very first time for his upcoming wedding. After a tour of the house, and some conversation about suit making, he inquires about Ermenegildo Zegna fabrics. Having discovered we can do this for him, the word E.H uses is “delighted.” It’s our word, too. Zegna being a specialty luxury fabric, it is a unique project for us, as well.
He selects a cool grey wool, which is to become a three-piece. Due to his tall and slim figure, we take special care to revisit the fit of his vest to ensure a shape that flatters. We ensure that the line of his trousers are particularly strong and crisp. To match his wedding colours, we use a bold pink and blue lining that picks up on lavender and accessorize him with a custom-made cravat.
Like many wool houses, Zegna produces their own suits but also carry collections of wool and silks for custom garments. This allows bespoke patrons the freedom of a truly custom, one-of-a-kind Zegna at the tailor of their choosing. While it certainly would be easier to simply purchase a pre-made Zegna and have it altered to fit perfectly, alterations can only go so far. This is largely the problem that prompts gentlemen to move from made-to-measure or off-the-rack to bespoke, on top of difficulties in finding appropriately-sized garments in the first place. It may be easy to nip in the side seams or shorten the sleeves by a touch, but it is impossible to move a breast pocket or scale down the proportions without significant damage to the integrity of the garment. By creating garments from basted fittings, one’s suit can be tailored uniquely from beginning to finish
