A longstanding patron brought in an overcoat we created for him last year. The open lapels on this classic wool overcoat were a bit too open at time and our patron wanted to know if there was a solution, as it had served him well through the previous winter.
Our solution was quite simple: one additional design feature would both increase the function and provide him with another option, an additional way to wear the coat. Created to resemble the throat which it would be covering, this piece is referred to informally as a ‘dog bone.’
The shaped, woven, hand-tacked throat closure was added, fastened to the bespoke garment with double buttons on the underside of each lapel. When buttoned, it provides the necessary full closure to keep our client completely insulated from the winter weather and when worn open, it becomes a unique design feature.
