Upon first gazing upon the masterpieces of Vincent Van Gogh, One can’t help but wonder what the world looked like through his eyes. An artist whose prominent brushstrokes celebrated the nature of his medium instead of attempting to hide it. Each movement of the brush carrying such an energy to it that the path his hand took to make it over a century ago remains visible. It is odd to say one can learn a great deal about life from a painting, but In times where conformity and suppression of the self are so prevalent, the suggestion to live life unapologetically genuine instead is certainly advice we can all take to heart
And live life unapologetically is exactly what the patron of this piece does. A long time patron of ours, They have always embodied a sense of style both eclectic and eccentric. Their personal motto, “Lovin it, Livin it” adorns every garment we’ve crafted for them, both as an expression of who they are, and as a reminder to live life as you are and without compromise. This beautifully patterned jacket was initially fashioned for our patron as a simple one off. Another expressive and fashionable piece for their wardrobe. This was, until they brought it back for a slight alteration.
After A brief discussion, the decision was made to push this garment to the limit. To hand craft a piece of clothing that both celebrated its medium, and transcended it. Like Daubigny’s Garden, an unorthodox fabric would serve in place of a canvas, however this time instead of painting a tea towel, it would be a bespoke tailored jacket. The touching tribute to Gogh’s Starry Night incorporates the existing swirled pattern of the fabric elegantly, with hand embroidered accents echoing the brushstrokes of the painting, while also embellishing the garment with our patron’s cherished motto. The avant garde mix of textures blends with the pattern and folds of the jacket harmoniously to create a piece that is a true celebration of clothing making as an art form. A wearable work of art that not only is an impressive sight to behold, but also a beautiful reflection of the person who wears it.
