After 51 years in business, we are pleased to ring in the new year (fashionably late of course) with our first ever issue of the Sartorial Dispatch, an exclusive newsletter curated by Trend Custom Tailors. We hope to evoke just as much excitement and fascination as the moment you first stepped into our home to the time you got to finally see your garment in its entirety. It is simultaneously brief yet impactful, familiar yet incomparable…moving but oh so still at the same time. Thank you for continuing to support our craft, please enjoy reading the contents of this month’s newsletter…maybe while you are wearing something that we have had the opportunity to make for you!
Outside of this house, the month of February has been swamped with monotonous skies and erratic snowfalls with the sun peaking through here and there. Fortunately, that didn’t stop our team from fervently working on your suit jackets; these were some of our favourite pieces that will not only stand the test of time, but also the recent weather in Toronto.
Many things in this world became interchangeable after COVID; hiking shoes are being worn on concrete and sneakers are being worn in the office but when did this become fashionable or stylish? What makes a piece of clothing, accessory, or footwear more coveted than the other? Are consultations really necessary anymore when we have Tik Tok, Instagram, and the opinions of our friends and family, perhaps even your own kids telling us what we should wear and how to wear it right at our fingertips? Maybe, but if there is one thing that needs to be made definite is that the terms fashion and style are not the same thing. Fashion represents the current cultural climate, it pushes for homogeneity and can be easily swayed by the political, economic, and social ideas of a period in time. Style, on the other hand, encourages the preservation of an eternal identity, it is cultivated through the personal experiences and careful and detailed observations of oneself. It is about making decisions irrespective of the mass opinion and wearing it on your sleeve…so next time you decide to invest in a piece of clothing, consider this.
If you didn’t already know, casual chic is in! Our friends at Dormeuil, Scabal, and Piacenza have brought in new patterns that are appropriate to dress for the office and for an afternoon out as well, composed of wool blends and a wonderful mix of silk, cashmere, and flax.
Lastly, to celebrate and honour the many cultures that exist within Trend, some members of our team were given the Friday off to prepare for Lunar New Years and spend time with loved ones.
