A Groom Without A Suit

This Dormeuil three-piece suit was created for a young groom after the unexpected closing of the store from which he had purchased his wedding suit just weeks prior to his wedding. Chronicled in a Toronto Star article by Ellen Roseman, his story was brought to our attention by a member of the Trend Custom Tailors team. Lucas and his lovely bride-to-be, Sarah, were immediately invited to Trend to see if we could help the young groom get back on track with his wish for a bespoke suit for his wedding.

“Doll me up in my bad luck; I’ll meet you there.”

Lucas made a number of key decisions that helped facilitate the shorter production timeline necessary to have his bespoke suit and bespoke shirt created in time for his wedding. Although customary turnaround time for a bespoke garment is four to six weeks for the initial consultation, first fitting, second fitting, and final fitting/delivery, by selecting in-house fabric for his suit Lucas eliminated the additional time required for fabric delivery to the atelier. As a result, cutting on the garment could begin immediately and scheduling of the delivery could be worked backwards from the delivery date to provide ample time for the required fittings.

For all first time clients for bespoke shirts, Trend creates a muslin for initial fitting, from which a personal pattern is drafted and also kept on file. The muslin allows for shirt fittings in similar fashion to the first fitting of a suit, in which measurement adjustments and fit as well as collar and cuff style decisions are discussed and confirmed prior to cutting the fabric. Lucas’ shirt fittings were scheduled concurrently with his suit fittings to ensure these discussions happened with the overall look in mind. A few short weeks later, through the suit and muslin fittings, his bespoke three-piece suit and shirt were finished and ready for the big day, featuring custom embroidery of meaningful song lyrics on the interior deep purple and black jacket lining, peak lapels, ticket pocket and a six-button vest.

Congratulations Lucas and Sarah from all of us at Trend!
